As the Middle East continues to appeal to international brands from across the globe, luxury British hair salon Trevor Sorbie is the latest to launch in the region, and flies over their artistic director Tom Connell to promote the news. We grab the mane man (sorry) to talk hair trends and discover what made him get hooked on hair aged 16. “My parents are hairdressers and my dad once took me to watch a Trevor Sorbie hair show,” Tom explains. “I thought, if I’m going to do this for a career, I want to work for him.” Dream big, kids.
As driving got underway Features Editor Olivia Adams proposed a cheeky haircut, as Tom and the team have been developing a hair technique called ‘invisible layers’ for thick, one-length hair. Tom describes this hair as ‘static’ and ‘not able to move well’. The method? Blow dry the hair and use the points of the scissors – or a razor – inside the hair to remove weight and add texture. The result is lighter hair but when combed you can’t see any layers. Nicely done.
The brand, founded by iconic celebrity hairdresser Trevor, has opened a completely Instagrammable branch of the multi-award winning salon in Dubai Mall. Trevor Sorbie Arabia boasts pink soft furnishings, green shrubbery on the ceiling and jars of sweets lining the reception. So cute. But not just a pretty face, Trevor and Tom have brought over their lead stylists from the UK, to ensure the legendary reputation is upheld (each stylist goes through an intensive training process). There’s also a menu of nail treatments available, which is such a simple yet brilliant idea for ticking off two beauty jobs at once.
