Toasted skin syndrome is actually a thing!
Living in the UAE we’re spoilt for sunshine, and while we don’t take that for granted for a second, what we do take for granted is how robust our skin can be in the sun come the weekend.
Ever wonder why mums don’t stop banging on about factor 50 on your face and neck? Well now we know. Wrinkles, sun spots, and, yes – the unthinkable – skin cancer. We’re not as invincible as we think and it’s time to get sun savvy, embrace the fake tan and try to reverse those wrinkles.
We spoke to Aisling Gavin, Managing Director from Fake Bake GCC to get some stats. “Since the ’90s, incidents of skin cancer have more than doubled, with the risk of getting melanoma more than doubling again in people who have a history of sunburn,” she told us. “Every year, over 265,500 new cases are diagnosed. On average, skin cancer can claim up to 20 years of a person’s life, yet many of its forms are preventable. At Fake Bake we say ‘Save Your Skin’, and enjoy a safe and flawless glow.”
Not only are we safety conscious, we’re also time conscious, too. Whether a full-time mum or flat-out in the office, we don’t have oodles of time. Our Instagram accounts may suggest that we’re always by the pool with an inflatable unicorn in the background, but the reality is we backdated that photo from two weekends ago, and our husband is currently wrestling our laptop out of our hands as we try not to miss a deadline. We really don’t have time to sit in the sun for four hours, turning every 30 minutes. We do, however, have time for a super-speedy Fake Bake tan. They’ll visit your home with a portable pop-up tent and spray you within half an hour. From transparent to golden goddess in no time at all. See? Who needs the beach?
