Gulp... could prosthetics be the new contouring?

We're all for the transformative power of make-up (concealer, you give us life), but a new beauty trend has gone viral and it might just be the most shocking before and after material we've ever seen.

Put simply, this is not your regular lip liner and highlighter tutorial – we’re talking skin extensions, chin bridges and fake eyelashes. Yikes.

Prosthetic make-up might make you think of special effects used in films, but for some women it's part of their everyday look. In a video posted on YouTube, a compilation shows various women using prosthetics and clay to their noses, as well as using contour make-up to change their jawlines, foreheads and overall face shape.

Many look unrecognisable when the layers of make-up and wigs are removed and they slowly turn from doll to human.

There's no denying that social media puts increasing pressure on women to obtain unrealistic beauty standards, and while the video is ultimately harmless, it is perhaps the talking point we need to address the issue of both conformity and perfection on a global scale.
