Full disclosure: Hourglass Cosmetics ain't cheap. Ambient Lighting Palette, the US brand's hero product (and the one Director of Global Education, Artistry & Events, Marc Reagan told us was their ultimate game-changer) comes in at a slightly steep Dhs328, while the Vanish Seamless Finish Liquid Foundation will set you back Dhs299. But before you start ugly-crying into your wallet, it's worth noting these three things...
One, we've tried a lot of foundations in our time (and we mean a lot - we tested 40 formulas on 20 women in the biggest magazine foundation roadtest ever. Not to brag or anything.) Two, it wasn't just having Marc - aka the most polished man in the world (seriously, he brought a lint roller out mid-shoot) - talk us through the brand's vegan and cruelty-free credentials that turned us into converts... although it definitely helped. And three, it might be on the pricier side, but that bottle is gonna last you a long old time - the brand actually recommends you only use half a pump for your whole face. We know. Madness.
Ever since Marc placed it in our grubby little hands, we've been addicted to swiping the Vanish Flash Highlighting Stick (the triangular bullet means it's idiot-proof - we've done it in the backseat of many a darkened Careem since and come out with a near-perfect highlight). The cream formula also means that you get a pretty intense pay-off. We're into it, we won't lie.
The Veil Mineral Primer and the Veil Transluscent Setting Powder have also been upgraded to a permanent spot in our beauty bag since filming. Pores and fine lines? Pah. They'll never darken our door again.
Aside from the fact that - you know - the stuff actually works, perhaps the most compelling thing about Hourglass is also what should be the most basic when it comes to beauty; that it's determinedly cruelty-free and heading towards an entirely vegan future by next year. "Mindful make-up," as we coined it. Inevitably, other brands will have to play catch up as more and more consumers start demanding it of them, but 'til then, we're happy that Hourglass is leading the charge. Everyone else has pretty big vegan-leather shoes to fill.
