We’ve all dreamed of what it would be like to have naturally long lashes reminiscent of our desert's camels, however no one prepared us for what it takes to get them…or to keep them.
I subscribed to the Dubai life and got eyelash extensions last week, and was excited to finally have picture-worthy lashes every moment of every day, with zero effort. And, as I walked into my local salon, completely unaware of the two and a half hours I would be held captive in the chair with my eyes taped shut, I thought "This will be so worth it".
I. Was. Wrong.
I went for volume lash extensions as my natural lashes are, at best, average on a good day with layers of mascara swiped across them. My eyes and skin are sensitive, so during the application I did experience some discomfort, but when the technician was finally finished I looked in the mirror and was completely shocked. I felt and looked like a different person - the length and thickness were something I could never experience without this procedure. As you'd expect, I felt amazing going to brunch on the weekend with friends, who, BTW, all gasped when seeing the 'new' me.
But, and it's a big BUT, for everyday life, and I have to be honest here, the extensions are way too much. At my yoga class nearly everyone commented, which means they stood out like a broken arm, and when I needed to shower I had to make sure they didn’t get wet otherwise they would fall out. I can’t argue they look great, make my eyes pop and save me so much time in the mornings before work. However they cost Dhs450 and will need to be refilled in a week due to my extensive nightly skincare regime, which ensures my eyelashes somehow always end up wet.
If you're on the fence about whether to try eyelash extensions, first I recommend you find a reputable practice despite the exorbitant cost, and second be prepared for constant effort... and keeping your head out of the shower.
