The global symbol of expensive kitchen kit, interior inspo, and Dubai’s designer hotels can now be found swirling its way onto bronzer palettes and compacts, worked into lipstick formulas, and at nail salons near you. Marble, that veiny pattern we all love, is sneaking into our beauty loot.
There are many incarnations: from Carrara marble to rose quartz and swirly jade. The beautiful Oriental stone, which often features in ancient Asian art, has more recently crept into our skincare regime by way of the roller. (Have you tried Shiffa’s version? It de-puffs, tightens pores and feels incredibly cooling on a hot face.)
Of course, you don’t have to go speckle mad and wear marble patterns on your lips, fingers, or toes. You can just dip into the trend with some of the prettiest packaging around. Check out the Blank Canvas Magni-Marble Brush Gift Set with Holder, which comprises ten Pinterest-friendly brushes that are infused with a copper ferrule and are also vegan-friendly. While MAC Cosmetics’ latest collection, Electric Wonder offers various hand-sculpted brushes that ensure make-up application is both effortless and stylish, with the pink-streaked handles, lip cases and palette products being marble-marvellous too. Beauty brushes should be left lying around the villa when they look this good.
There’s actually more to these ranges than meets the eye, as these marble-esque patterns are not just for shelfie appeal alone. Powder formulations have been specially developed to provide a soft-focus finish. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush, and Ambient Light Bronzer have just launched at Sephora, and offer handmade compacts using an advanced miscelare (‘to mix’ in Italian) technique, creating the perfect combination of dense pigments and powder, enhanced with photoluminescent technology for glow and radiance. They are easy to apply, and the ready-mixed compact means you don’t end up with any harsh highlighter lines.
Illamasqua Nude Collection Beyond Powder has a lovely bronzy version that adds a light sheen to cheeks and collarbones, or, when used wet, mega-watt metallic shine that’s amazing on the eyes. Meanwhile, chic French-girl brand Givenchy has a limited-edition Les Saisons Marbree Teinte Healthy Glow Powder for Summer 2019, which imparts a summery golden illumination that catches the light and creates a halo effect around your face.
Eva Mendes is reportedly fan of the Edward Bess Cheek range – and if her glow is anything to go by, it’s likely his tri-coloured Marbleized Rose Gold Highlighting Powder is a favourite.
Lips aren’t left out, either, with RMK’s Midnight Flower Lipsticks coming in a statement teal packaging and being a treat to show-off in public. The hypnotic swirl of colour on the bullet glides on smoothly, imparting a sheer stain, and includes ingredients to plump and prime the lips.
