Personally, convenience is key when it comes to skincare, and while I love the idea of spending up to 30 minutes per night slathering my face in lotions and potions, the reality is, I don’t have time or the inclination to do so. So when I was invited to try out Skin Laundry I was interested to see if high yielding results could be achieved in just 15 minutes.
If you haven’t heard of Skin Laundry yet, let me briefly explain. The US import provides medical-grade facials in just 15 minutes, and while the treatments on offer are firmly rooted in the latest skincare technology, Skin Laundry clinics look more like cool Californian beach houses than a medical facility.
As efficiency is at the core of Skin Laundry’s M.O., the premise is relatively simple. Clients, who take out monthly memberships, can take a mix and match approach and choose between the Signature YAG laser facial and the fractional resurfacing laser facial based on their individual skin concerns. YAG laser can help boost collagen, minimise pores and improve skin discolouration and pigmentation, while fractional laser is more focused on resurfacing and can help smooth fine lines and wrinkles, therefore improving the overall texture of the skin. For the best of both worlds, clients can also combine the two, and there’s also the option to add a Glow Peel for a deep clean of the pores.
After a consultation, it was decided that I should undergo the Elite Facial, which combines both YAG and fractional laser. YAG felt a bit like having laser hair removal in that my skin felt warm and it pinched every time the laser zapped a particularly congested patch along my T-zone. I found the fractional laser slightly less uncomfortable even through it essentially punctures the skin by creating microscopic channels that are invisible to the naked eye. In all honestly, a bikini wax is more painful and because the process is over in a matter of minutes, you get through it. Finally, my facial was finished off with a sheet mask, which delivered an instant shot of hydration courtesy of hyaluronic acid, antioxidants and peptides.
My skin instantly looked clearer and brighter (if a little pink) after the first visit, and an additional bonus is that there’s no downtime meaning you could easily go back to work or meet people afterward without looking like Samantha from Sex and the City after she underwent that infamous skin peel.
Your first visit is free and memberships start at Dhs580 per month, however to really see a difference, Skin Laundry recommends clients establish a weekly routine to achieve specific skincare goals like clearing acne or reducing the appearance of sunspots. Consistency really is key.
Four facials per month, which is the top tier of membership, will cost you Dhs2,500 so it is an investment. But if you value your time along with a better complexion, Skin Laundry could be the solution.
