A pat on the back to those who lengthily brush their teeth twice a day (with an electric toothbrush, obviously) and who still have the willpower to subsequently floss. While your character is highly admirable, unfortunately I have bad news: it takes more than a strong scrubbing to keep teeth shining brightly all year round (we’re looking at you, staining-but-satisfying-coffee).
Teeth whitening is one of the solutions to rid stains and actively brighten, and so I made an appointment with Nova Clinic’s leading dentist Dr Sarris. During the consultation, he explained the importance of booking a hygienist first. It means you will have a clean, smooth surface to work on for optimal results.
After my teeth were cleaned, the bleach application began, using a teeth-whitening device called Phillips Zoom WhiteSpeed. “We have been working with this technology for over a decade,” Dr Sarris explains. “It can whiten teeth up to six shades in less than one hour, using the most advanced LED light technology with different intensity settings.” Put simply, this means the zoom light activates the hydrogen peroxide and the bleaching gel, which in turn whitens your teeth.
Each laser session lasted 15 minutes. I had three, as by the third session I began feeling slightly uncomfortable little shocks running through the nerves, but you can have a fourth session if your teeth aren’t sensitive and reacting to the formula.
Disclaimer: it doesn’t last forever. In order to maintain white teeth, you’re given a customised tray (an employee took a mould of my teeth before my teeth were cleaned) that you take home with you and use as regularly as you wish – 30 minute sessions are advised for maximum whitening results.
My verdict? I was in and out of the clinic within the hour, and told that while avoiding a richly pigmented curry was advisable that evening, I could still eat and drink exactly as I pleased going forward. Oh, and my teeth were immediately whiter. So many things to smile about.
