In the early oughts, there were few trends more luxurious and sought-after than the French manicure. It was sported by every It girl of the era: Paris Hilton, Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Simpson — the list goes on and on and on. You’d have been hard-pressed to find any woman on the red carpet without the sheer, pink base and chunky white tips.

Over the years, the French manicure has been reinvented in more ways than we can count. Most interesting of all in 2019 is the “floating” french tip. Created by nail artist Tracey Lee, the floating French tip is entirely a classic French manicure- but reversed. Colour is applied on the base, with the tip being left completely bare, creating the illusion it’s named after. And We. Are. Obsessed. Here are a few of our favourite looks that might inspire your next set.
