2019 has truly been the year of the throwback hairstyle: Kim K resurrected the '60s flip, while crimped coifs took centre stage at 3.1 Phillip Lim's fall runway. Hair colour, however, has stayed rather simple - until now that is.
Channelling a ‘90s Geri Halliwell, or a ‘00s Christina Aguilera, the likes of Dua Lipa and Billie Eilish have taken to sporting two-tone hair; hair dyed two boldly contrasting colours. And we’re into it.
It can be both bold and subtle depending on your which tones you choose and how you opt to split the hair up, breaking it up from top to bottom, Eilish-style, or splitting it front to back.
“It wasn’t a cool style the first time around, but people like Dua Lipa are doing it in a rockier kind of way. There’s a whole generation of kids who hadn’t seen it before and find it interesting,” says Luke Hersheson, creative director of Hersheson salons, in agreement that the 90s trend is more current than ever.
