Sephora Outrageous Oversized Lashes Multidimensional Volume Mascara, Dhs95
The Promise: A lightweight formula with a ‘curve-tastic brush’ that’ll deliver three-dimensional volume, with thicker, longer, ultra-black lashes. The formula is enriched with hyaluronic acid and keratin for extra moisturising and thick, strong lashes.
The Verdict: Volume? Check! Ultra-black? Check! Affordable? Yep! Lengthening? You bet! Er...need we say more?
Dhs95, available in store and on sephora.ae
Beauty Blender Opal Essence Pre-Touch Primer
The Promise: A serum primer that adds radiance and moisture for up to 8 hours. BB's motto is 'pre-touch so you don't have to re-touch'. Catchy. The hydrating formula transforms from a gel to an oil to a cream to make sure foundation glides over skin without clinging to dry patches or settling into fine lines.
The Verdict: While primer is often neglected in our beauty routine, or subbed for moisturiser (hey, don't judge us), Beauty Blender’s Opal Essence may have just put that to an end. It goes on smooth and absorbs quickly so our foundation looks dewy and stays put all day, plus it feels super moisturising and hydrating too.
Launching in March in stores and on sephora.ae
Becca Ultimate Lip Definer
The Promise: Said to glide on like silk, the jojoba oil-infused, ultra-creamy formula is also waterproof and always sharp thanks to the built-in sharpener. The dual-ended lip liner comes with a precision tool for extra definition and to clean up any mistakes you make along the way.
The Verdict: First of all - why don’t all lip liners have a precision tool? It’s a game-changer, especially for those of us with a less-than-plump pout that needs extra filling in. The colour goes on smooth, and is definitely long-wearing, but it’s to be expected from a brand as loved as Becca.
Launching in March in stores and on sephora.ae
Fenty Lil Precision Makeup Sponge Duo 105
The Promise: The pack comes with two sponges – one triple-edged sponge with a tear-drop point for getting into those hard-to-reach areas, and a dual-edged sponge with a slanted end and a velvet end, specially created for applying setting powder.
The Verdict: Ok, so here’s the thing – a sponge is a sponge. They’re smaller than expected but we understand it was made for more precision. They do the job, but the velvet end didn’t seem to make a noticeable difference to how the setting powder looked, though it is a cool idea. So, if you love all things Fenty then you may want to try it out, but we’ll be sticking to our beauty blender.
Hourglass Caution Mascara
The Promise: An all-in-one mascara that delivers endless length, intense volume and sky-high lift for extreme dramatic lashes. One stroke gives you 400 per cent more volume thanks to the 4DA amplifier brush that has both short and dense bristles, and a tapered end for the corners of the eye.
The Verdict: We’ve been looking forward to the launch of Hourglass in the UAE, so we had high expectations for this mascara, and unfortunately, we didn’t love it. While it definitely lifts, lengthens and separates, we didn’t get the volume we were hoping for, though it works really well for bottom lashes, if you’re as extra as us and use different mascaras for each. Plus, there’s no denying it’s one of the prettiest products in our kit.
Tarte Pro Remix Amazonian Clay Palette
The Promise: The sequel to Tarte’s OG pro palette, the Remix Palette is packed with twenty vibrant, long-wearing shades, and was formulated to celebrate all forms of art and expression. The addition of mineral pigments means skin is softer, and the vanilla fragrance provides antioxidant benefits. And a nice smell, we imagine.
The Verdict: Glitter. Glitter everywhere. Usually, that’s not a bad thing, but it is when it means we have to re-do our foundation because of the fallout. The colours are pigmented, including the glitter shades, though there isn’t much variety. It’s a nice palette, just be sure to do your foundation after your eyes.
Dr.Jart+ Ceramidin Liquid
The Promise: Supercharged with 5-Cera Complex, the lightweight moisturising toner prevents dryness in harsh climates (like our beloved desert heat), and leaves skin supple, moisturised and prepped for the next steps in your routine.
The Verdict: We couldn’t be more in love with this if we tried. After a week of having it in our night-time skincare routine our skin was softer and more moisturised – even with the rollercoaster weather Dubai’s been throwing at us. Plus, a little goes a long way, so we won’t be running out any time soon (though that won’t stop us from stocking up come the launch in March).
Too Faced Pretty Rich Diamond Fire Highlighter
The Promise: A ‘one-of-a-kind’ highlighter infused with real crushed diamond powder and light-reflecting pearls for a highlight that works on any skin tone. The liquid-to-powder formula is hand poured to make sure that no two highlighters look the same, just like a real diamond. Fancy.
The Verdict: Too Faced always go all out with their packaging, and this highlighter is no exception. It definitely looks interesting, and the actual effect is pretty, but this isn’t for anyone that loves a blinding highlight.
GlamGlow Tropical Cleanse Daily Exfoliating Cleanser
The Promise: Powered by Brazilian super-fruits (acai, acerola and goji berries, to be exact), this cream-to-foam exfoliating cleanser combines berries with purple clay, and features a triple-exfoliating blend of fruit extracts, pomegranates and fruit enzymes to buff away dead skin cells and leave skin looking radiant.
The Verdict: We’re fairly certain our whole neighbourhood knows when we’re using this. It smells so good, and leaves our skin feeling sqeaky clean and completely free of makeup and other skin-damaging nasties. It’s gentle enough to use twice a day, but we use it in the morning for a boost. Did we mention how good it smells?
