We tried a candyland pedicure and this is what happened

Getting a monthly pedi is an absolute necessity when 90 per cent of your shoes are toe-baring. No longer a novel summer treat, scheduling in a monthly toe overhaul is a weary task to add to the to-do list when you live in the Middle East. That is until we discovered Kozma & Kozma, a beauty salon tucked away on Al Wasl Road in Dubai. Forget two lonely options of paint or gel, here there are a host of weird and wonderful nail treatments on offer including Unicorn Manicures and Sea Monster Pedicures. Thoroughly intrigued, we paid them a visit.

All booked in for a Candyland Pedicure, we entered the salon to find a swirling spiral staircase, colourful chandelier, and… a sweetie bar? This, it turns out, is a brilliant way to start a nail treatment; we were served smarties and a fresh tropical juice while we waited for our technician.

Once upstairs, we settled in to a big, white massage chair while the lovely therapist Reshyl went and prepared the candy pedicure. Out came a silver bowl full of wobbling, rainbow-coloured ‘gumballs’ for you to plop your feet into, along with a dessert table filled with delicious-looking treats for your feet. Popping and squishing jelly orbs with your feet is an odd experience, but strangely satisfying – definitely something we would be up for repeating.

Next, feet were soaked with sweet-smelling banana bath salts (the yellow spoon) while Reshyl got to work on an extremely thorough file, cuticle tidy, trim and scrub. The ‘ice cream’ brought out on the table turned out to be a moisturising bath bomb (sugary sweet smelling of course) while the pink spoon held a choco-raspberry foot mask which was applied for 10 minutes and finished with a dusting of sugar sprinkles which provided the perfect Boomerang photo op.

When all the candy had been enjoyed, Reshyl began the gel pedicure. Kozma & Kozma offer an impressive selection of colours, including polished holographic chrome shades and even nail art. You can also have the treatment with normal paint – the choice is yours.

Novelties aside, the paint job was absolutely perfect. Will we be returning for another sugar rush? You bet we will, although there is an extensive menu to work through – we’ll have a ‘Snowman Pedicure’ next please!
