Beach waves and bronzer begone! Well, they’re banished for Cruise 2019, if celebrity hairstylist Sam McKnight and Chanel Global Creative Makeup and Colour Designer Lucia Pica have their way. Sam tells Grazia, “The look is straight but it still has a natural texture. I was looking at pictures of [American actress, and the star and style icon of the cult 1970 film Love Story] Ali MacGraw so it has that natural, healthy, 1970s feel about it.” With not a sea-salt spray in sight.
Referencing the boat, sharks’ teeth, wave and porthole motifs, Lucia continues, “The print of some of the dresses, with a futuristic vibe, inspired me. So to convey this modernity and follow Karl Lagerfeld’s brief, I created a strong blue matte graphic eye [using Stylo Ombre Et Contour – Contour Graphique Eyeshadow and Liner, set with the navy-blue shade of Les 4 Ombres Eyeshadow Quad in Quiet Revolution, both from her AW18 collection] and kept the skin super fresh and balmy with a touch of glimmer.”
She adds, “I always try to create contrasts in my textures; it’s something I do in my work every day on photo shoots, catwalks and campaigns.” For her first Chanel runway, Lucia kept lips nude with Rouge Allure in Ingénue, meanwhile the models’ nails prepped with La Base, painted in the most delicate of Le Vernis hues in Ballerina, and glossed with long-wear topcoat Le Gel, then refreshed with a dab of La Crème Main. Recreate the Chanel Cruise beauty look for a catwalk take on haute holiday make-up. Chartering a yacht to Biarritz is optional but encouraged.
