The Dior SS19 Couture show in Dubai is still over a month away... which gives us just enough time to sharpen up our circus skills before the first look hits the runway

3 ways to limber up before the Dior Haute Couture circus comes to Dubai

For the Dior Haute Couture SS19 show in Paris, the acrobats of the all-female circus company Mimbre shared top billing with Maria Grazia Chiuri's dreamy designs. As Dubai prepares for Le Cirque du Dior, Grazia presents three ways to get into the circus spirit while we wait for the greatest show on earth. Send in the clowns...

1. Dubai Circus School

Who knew we had our very own circus school in Dubai? Somewhere in a warehouse in Al Quoz, Dubai-dwelling daredevils are learning silks, hoop, trapeze and floor acrobatics, plus circus circuit training for the bravest among them. Columbian Co-Founder Marcela Bello, who started Dubai Circus School with her husband Javier, believes that circus skills are life-changing. "The circus is a fun place. It’s a positive environment where everyone feels supported. It’s a community. We're a family." According to Marcela, the idea was born to demonstrate that death-defying acts that first seem impossible are actually achievable - a realisation that then students can apply to all areas of their lives. "You come to Dubai Circus School to get out of your comfort zone and discover something about yourself." Discipline and commitment are required, as it's recommended you train between two and three times a week to see a real improvement. The most rewarding part of running the Dubai Circus School for Marcela? "Watching my students realise what they’re capable of." Who wants to run away to join the circus with us?

Classes cost Dhs126 each, with packages starting from Dhs1,239. For more info, visit dubaicircusschool.ae

Recreating Dior Make-up Creative and Image Director Peter Phillips' SS19 Couture beauty look for your aerial fitness class is optional but encouraged

2. Aerial Arts

According to Pole Fit Dubai Aerial instructor Sarah Jones, "Aerial silks are an amazing full-body workout. It’s great for improving upper body strength, one of the best abs workouts around, and it doesn't impact your body as hard as most gym exercises. In your first few lessons, you'll learn how to climb and do basic wraps and use your body to do counter balance poses that may look super-impressive but are actually very achievable with the correct technique." Sarah adds, "Aerial silk classes are challenging but not impossible. I love how you can see yourself improve from week to week whether it’s just being able to climb that extra step higher or a routine becomes easier."

Aerial silks classes at Pole Fit Dubai take place every day and cost Dhs105 each, and with packages starting from Dhs735. See the schedule here

3. La Perle by Dragone

If you prefer to experience the thrill of the circus from the safety of your own seat rather than soaring through the air on a trapeze, might we suggest La Perle by Dragone? Dubai's first resident live theatre show is a frenzy of acrobatics, contortion, stunt riding and martial art performed in a state-of-the-art aqua theatre. Book online now to save 40 per cent on tickets for the month of March. Alternatively, choose La Perle's Dining and Show package, which includes a Gold ticket plus a set menu at any of Habtoor City's surrounding eateries such as Babiole, The Market, Zoco, The City Grill, Namu, or BQ from just Dhs555.
