We’re used to seeing the same expressionless mannequins with lopsided wigs and dodgy eyelashes on our shopping trips, but they may now be a thing of the past. The trouble is, we don’t know whether Balenciaga’s alternative is interesting or frightening.
The brand’s New York City flagship store has introduced 3D-printed mannequins that look so realistic that we’re guaranteed to accidentally ask them for help. In case that wasn’t 2019 enough, the mannequins are made to look like models that have walked for Balenciaga or featured in its campaigns. Would you want to see a mannequin with your face on it?
Right now the mannequins are only being used in the NYC store but if the popularity of Balenciaga’s weird and wonderful ideas are anything to go by, we’d say they’ll be showing up worldwide any day now. Though the one with the long black hair can stay there – it’s giving us major The Ring vibes and we’re not happy about it.
