Temperatures may have dipped recently, but here in Dubai it’s still warm enough to wear one of summer’s slinkiest silhouettes: the slip. According to fashion search platform Lyst, searches have soared by 41 per cent in the last six weeks. But hang on a sec. Surely the slip, that barely there wisp of a dress (a literal slip of a thing) championed by Kate and Naomi in the ’90s, is made for holiday wardrobes and bedrooms? Not necessarily.
Layer it right and you have one of the hardest workers in your wardrobe. To give it a winter 2019 stamp, take one of Raey’s or Joseph’s muted silk slip dresses, layer it over a mesh top – like those by Molly Goddard – or under an XXXL chunky knit, and add a pair of heavy boots (Grenson’s or Proenza Schouler’s, ideally).
