One of the best things about Instagram is unearthing hidden gems. Enter, this mother-and-daughter duo who teamed up to create one of the web’s brightest jewellery collections. Joyful, fun and vibrant are the words that come to mind when you take a look at the rainbow of stackable bracelets, anklets and necklaces available from this namesake brand.
Who do you design for, and what are the key components of your design ethos?
We design for people who love to play dress-up, who ignore the ‘take one thing off before you leave the house’ rule. If you’re someone who puts jewellery on to run errands because – why not? – we’re right there with you.
Are your pieces inspired by the USA?
Our jewellery is more emblematic of our collective personal style and who we are than of a specific place; although where we’re from, where we’ve been and where we’d like to travel to absolutely influences our designs. My mum, Brinker, and I love big, bold, chunky things that dress up an outfit, regardless of the occasion. My mum, in particular, loves anything that feels as though it was discovered in a vintage shop. I lean towards colour. And both of us, given that we’re from a small beach town in Connecticut, have always been drawn to seashells, sea glass and imperfect pearls. All of that comes across in our jewellery.
What are your thoughts on the style of Connecticut women?
I divide my time between Connecticut and New York for work. When I’m at our studio in Connecticut it’s all a little bit more casual and beachy – jean shorts, T-shirts, swimsuits, sandals, plus a pile of whatever bracelets, earrings, necklaces and anklets we have to hand. In New York, in the summer especially, I dress up more than I do back home. Blouses with gigantic sleeves, backless tops, dresses and, of course, loads of jewellery. Anything that makes me happy, honestly. The blanket style of New York City is ‘anything goes’ so it’s impossible to pin on one thing which is part of what makes it such an incredible place to live.
What vacation style would describe the Brinker & Eliza girl and where is she going on holiday?
The vacation style of the Brinker & Eliza girl is pretty simple – lots of linen, a pair of leather sandals, our Blissed Out Necklace, Sailor’s Necklace, Against All Odds Bracelet, Eden Earrings, and Go Fish Huggies – with plenty of empty suitcase space reserved for bringing home market finds. Plus a pair of sunglasses that she can wear throughout the whole trip and a bathing suit… or several!
What’s the fashion scene in Connecticut like?
Because our town is so close to the beach, the overall style tends to be nautical. Lots of white and navy, sea-inspired details, chunky sweaters and jeans in the winter – it’s pretty casual.
Where will you both be spending your summer this year?
My mum and I are planning a trip to Italy right now, and I have the Amalfi Coast on my mind. We also have a trip planned to Nantucket at the beginning of September, but for most of summer we’re going to stick close to home to focus on the line. Luckily, the water’s right here so we’ll do a lot of dinners, reading and walks on the beach. Our proximity to the water is something we definitely do not take for granted and we try to take advantage of it as often as we can.
What are your jet-set traveller wardrobe staples?
A massive market tote. Something warm, like a wrap that can be used as a blanket for the plane. We like clothes that can be repurposed, like a beach cover-up that can be worn as a skirt or top. We always pack what some people may consider a ridiculous amount of jewellery, but the best thing about jewellery is that you can pack a lot without it taking up a ton of space, and then you don’t have to pack as many outfits because you can change up the same thing with different jewels.
How do you see your jewellery being worn?
We love seeing people in our pieces and being able to tell instantly that they had fun getting dressed that morning.
How do you think your pieces make your customer feel?
Our hope is that they feel like each piece was designed solely for them. We hope it makes them feel special, happy and excited!
