Ever since Phoebe Philo stepped down at Céline, the fashion world has searched for a successor. It was not just a question of who would replace her - a position filled by Hedi Slimane, who stepped in as Artistic, Creative and Image Director in January - but more importantly, who would be the next woman who knew exactly the kind of covetable, wearable luxury we crave and could give it to us exactly the way we want it?
If her Autumn/Winter 2018 collection is anything to go by, Dubai-based designer Kristina Fidelskya is throwing her hat into the ring. Having studied fashion design at ESMOD in Dubai in 2012, the mother-of-two launched her eponymous label with her first collection in Autumn/Winter 2015. Now in her second season showing at Paris Fashion Week, her 43-look collection featured relaxed silhouettes, oversized wool coats, luxe layering, so-next-season sheepskin, and easy-to-wear wide-leg trousers - European chic with a Middle Eastern modesty, mood-designed with real women in mind.
With plans to expand into footwear, bags and perfume, we predict Dubai could well have a new superbrand on its hands.
