A roll call of Middle Eastern It girls from Jessica Kahawaty to Amina Muaddi and Karen Wazen to Nadine Abdelaziz have been spotted sporting the Jordanian designer's debut collection - a testament to the cool factor of this brand.
Do you think your clothes are symbolic of Jordanian design?
I try to draw inspiration as much as I can from the Jordanian culture, whether from the prints, patterns or the mix of material that I use. They symbolise the modern yet grounded new side of Jordan.
Who do you design for, and what are the key components of your design ethos?
I design for the modern women who is playful, feminine and bold in her style. My designs always have an element of 1960s-inspired vintage flair. At the conceptualisation of Romani I went through my old family photos and drew a lot of inspiration from them.
What are your thoughts on the style of the Jordanian girl?
The Jordanian girl is sophisticated and classy with a cool-edge, she’s true to her roots and culture but isn’t afraid to explore new cult brands and statement pieces. Each woman is different than the other. There is no mould. A lot of Jordanian women travel a lot and have studied abroad which explains our diversified styles and wardrobe.
What vacation style does the Jordanian girl have and where is she going on holiday?
Whether she’s visiting an urban city or she’s jet-setting to an island, the Jordanian girl will always let her hair down. She wants to be comfortable yet always looks feminine and fresh.
What's the fashion scene in Jordan like?
We have a wealth of upcoming talented designers, which is pretty exciting. Also Amman’s society is very small which makes it a supportive community that pushes you to strive and succeed. I think the fashion scene is shifting towards supporting local and regional talent, especially with Queen Rania spearheading the movement by highlighting a new designer at every occasion. I think this is inspiring the Jordanian women to follow in her steps as she is a major influence for us.
Where will you be spending your summer this year?
I will be back in LA to work on my SS20 collection but I'll take a vacation to the South of France at the end of summer.
What are your jet-set traveller wardrobe staples?
I love wearing my brand, I can never have enough of Romani plus a vintage Chanel bag and stacked Saint Laurent boots.
