Ikram Abdi Omar is the First Hijabi Model to Star in Burberry’s Festive Campaign

Having previously starred the likes of Cara Delevingne, Romeo Beckham, and Naomi Campbell and her mum, it wouldn’t be an overstatement to say that Burberry’s Festive Campaign is a delightfully diverse and creative affair.  And this year’s edition may well be the luxury house’s most inclusive line-up yet.

Burberry has just revealed the cast of its much-anticipated Festive Campaign for 2019, and it stars model Ikram Abdi Omar - the very first hijabi model to be featured in the British Heritage brand’s annual campaign.

A potted history of Ikram Abdi Omar’s glorious, unrivalled talent: Born in Sweden to Somali parents, the UK-raised model was the first hijab-wearing woman to be signed to top London agency Bookings Models. In less than a month, she made her fashion week debut with Molly Goddard, and has since graced the covers of international magazines, made appearances for Zandra Rhodes Archive, Juicy Couture x V Files and Ryan Lo, and worked with e-commerce platform The Modist. Casual.

Though images from the Festive Campaign have yet to be revealed, if Burberry’s Chief Creative Officer, Riccardo Tisci’s Instagram teaser is anything to go by, a Shakespearean forest full of fairies and fauns is to be expected.

Needless to say, we’re excited.
