Every millennial has a Forever 21 item in their overflowing wardrobe. You know the one – that too-small tee with a cheeky slogan possibly related to Monday mornings not being The One or boys being worse than girls (though that bit is still true). If you’re in the Gen Z age group, chances are you know Forever 21 only because of their recent fat-shaming scandal. And, unfortunately, it’s the lack of love from Gen Z that’s forced them to declare bankruptcy.
Not only is Forever 21 a victim of new competitors and a more style-savvy audience, but the rise of online shopping means malls are emptier than ever before. With this declaration comes the news that they’ll be leaving most international locations. However, the teen clothing store said in a statement that filing for bankruptcy simply means they’re putting themselves on a successful track for the future. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
