Middle Eastern influencer and beauty icon Karen Wazen is donating $10,000 US Dollars (Dhs36,729) for eye surgeries intended for victims of the Beirut blast.
The Lebanese national, who currently lives in Dubai, is actively supporting her hometown, where over 300,000 homes were destroyed in last month’s devastating blast. As well as leaving many homeless, the devastating event severely impacted thousands of victim’s eyesight, leaving people desperately in need of help.
Karen Wazen Eyewear was founded in 2018 and has become a major success in the region. The donation was announced through the brand’s platform, and will be made to Beirut Eye & ENT Spec Hospital (BESH), as many victims are unable to afford care and surgeries.
BESH has created a donation page with the target of £30,000 for those who wish to donate to the cause.
The hospital is to provide detailed reports, to those who wish to donate, on how and where the money will be spent along with the invoices. Neither the surgeons nor the hospital will take any of the fees, the donations will first be used to help children in need followed by the critical cases that need the funds.
The fashion industry has rallied to support those in Beirut, with brands such as H&M, Chanel and Zuhair Murad all donating to the cause.
