It's a strange time to launch a collection, admits Loewe Artistic Director, Jonathan Anderson of the bold colours, joyful prints, tie-dye and leather mini bags moulded in shapes of dolphins, whales and elephants that run riot within his Paula's Ibiza range. "I know this is not exactly the ideal time to launch products, but this is a project all the craftspeople at Loewe have been lovingly working on for some time, giving life to objects that are exquisitely lively and optimistic - as craft always is."
In order to support children in socially vulnerable groups affected by COVID-19 and to ensure a better future, Loewe is collaborating with Plataforma de Infancia—a Spanish alliance of social organisations that work to protect children and adolescents’ rights. Together with Plataforma de Infancia, Loewe will launch a series of educational programs this summer in Spain aiming to reduce inequality and school dropouts.
Loewe will be donating 40 euros to educational projects for every product of the new Paula's Ibiza collection sold between May and August in stores and on loewe.com. The label will also donate 500,000 euros to the cause.
To provide effective help to the frontline, Loewe will also donate 100,000 surgical masks to the Spanish Red Cross, while producing non-surgical masks in its Getafe factory for volunteer workers, Loewe employees and their families.
Anderson hopes that this cacophony of colour serves a way to brighten our moods: "I thought it might cheer you up. As a visual feast, probably, or an aide-mémoire of better times to come," adding, "I’ll be happy for you to enjoy it, quite simply and very spontaneously."
And although we can't travel to Ibiza until the borders open on 1 July 2020, we have a pretty good idea of what we'll be packing.
