The modesty advocate and Grazia Girl Gang member takes us on a trip to The Bahamas. Here's what she packed.
Modest fashion is a term I’m sure Grazia readers are all familiar with. However, is modest fashion simply a dress code we follow or a lifestyle? As a Muslim woman, being modest goes beyond just the way I dress and is something I value and place great importance upon.
Every year, I try to discover somewhere new, and I recently took a trip with my best friend to The Bahamas. It’s definitely the place for great weather, but dressing modestly in the sun can also be challenging. When I pack I have a few essentials that I make sure I never forget. Shirts are great because the material is breathable and the long sleeves cover up what’s needed.
I pack a burkini and a bikini because I still want to have fun in the sun like everyone else, even though I personally don’t like how a burkini looks on me, hence you won’t find a snap of me in one on social media! I also pack a bikini because in some cases I have a private area to sunbathe, where I hope no one can see me.
I have sleeveless roll-necks in case I want to wear a shirt but the neck is too wide, so I can wear something underneath to still keep me covered. Denim shirts and jackets are a necessity for me and timeless pieces I use to throw over any outfit that needs extra covering.
Loose fitted trousers are important because I don’t want to battle getting into a tight pair of trousers in the heat!
