As any working woman knows, having a failsafe fashion formula is the only way to go when it comes to making getting dressed in the mornings a little bit easier.
And while you might think this doesn’t apply to A-listers or royalty, it turns out Meghan Markle is just like the rest of us, and has decided to make shirt dresses her thing for maximum ease in the AM.
The former Suits actress is no stranger to a classic white shirt and is frequently pictured wearing the ‘Husband Shirt’ designed by her BFF, Misha Nonoo.
And on her recent royal tour of Africa with Prince Harry and baby Archie, Meghan seems to have taken inspiration from her favourite sartorial staple, fulfilling her official duties in a series of smart shirt dress styles.
Ranging from a floor-sweeping khaki version for her trip to a local mosque, to a beige double breasted twist on the classic trench while attending the University of Johannesburg to speak with students and discuss the challenges of higher education for women, each shirt dress was the perfect mix of unfussy yet professional.
Staying true to the simple silhouette right until the last day of the tour, the Duchess donned a white shirt dress by ethical Cape Town label Hannah Lavery during a trip to the Youth Employment Services (Yes) organisation in Johannesburg, and in our opinion saved the best for last.
The limited edition design was created from leftover fabric to minimise fabric waste, and she completed her effortless look with nude suede pointed courts and coral tassel earrings from US brand Madewell.
While the earrings are currently out of stock, Meghan’s dress will soon be available to buy online. Ethical and effortlessly elegant? We’re sold.
