While you might not automatically associate Dubai with basketball, the city has a thriving scene, as sports fans from across the globe have found unity through their shared love of the game.
And to celebrate and support these everyday athletes, Nike is launching its second We Play DXB campaign.
Shot in various locations around the city, including basketball courts in JLT, Al Satwa and Gems, the campaign imagery features 15 players of different ages and backgrounds.
These include Adji N’Diyae who hails from a Senegalese family and plays for Al Nasr academy while balancing her day job as an accountant; Sudanese Gaafar El Souri who played professionally for Al Hilal Club in Saudi Arabia before his career took him to Europe, Southeast Asia and Canada; Jana Musannef who is just 12-years-old and was the only girl to compete in an all-boys under 16 category at Jam Academy; and Seraphin Mboma, originally from Congo, who now uses social media to organise games and tournaments for the local community.
Nike has also teamed up with Dubai Multi Commodities Center (DMCC) and has taken over the court in JLT to create an art mural dedicated to the game.
The court which launches this weekend with a tournament hosted in partnership with DMCC and retail partner Concepts, will act as a hub for local basketball enthusiasts and will be hosting a series of community-led activations.
Plus the Nike store at The Dubai Mall will also be offering exclusive customisation workshops from December 1 – 5, so, even if you've never been tempted to play, with so many new ways to get involved, maybe now's the time to just do it.
