Today, Rihanna's fashion line Fenty added jewellery into its existing eminently Instagrammable repertoire of louche luxe streetwear suiting. The Cameo collection may be bijou at just three pieces - a ring, a pair of earrings, and a pendant which can also be worn as a brooch - but it's making a formidable statement about diverse beauty, reclaiming power and reshaping the future. 

Egyptian in origin, the cameo traditionally depicted mythological themes in early Greek and Roman carvings, and went on to be seen as a status symbol in Elizabethan times. However Fenty's new release flips the script with a view to become an heirloom for a new generation. "Though Fenty’s cameo features a black woman’s profile, the collection is not about a singular definition of beauty; she symbolises the beauty of difference," states the brand. 

Accompanying the collection is an arresting campaign shot by Nigerian photographer Ruth Ossai, which remixes the Cameo collection with denim and hoodies to further subvert the genre while session stylist Issac Poleon takes afro hair to its absolute limits.

It's rare for a celebrity-fronted collection to contribute to the cultural conversation in a meaningful way, but if you're looking for the breakthrough moment when Fenty gets taken seriously as a fashion brand, this is it.
