Without a doubt, the fashion industry united globally to combat Covid-19, from Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Prada and Bottega Veneta to Dubai-based designers. New York-based luxury ready-to-wear label, SemSem is the latest label to contribute to the relief efforts.
Founded by Abeer Al Otaiba, SemSem has always been dedicated to giving back and improving the well-being of women and children, and the pandemic is no different. She will now use her label to support non-profit organisations based in New York and creates reusable protective masks from surplus fabrics in their New York atelier.
SemSem is aiding the Afya Foundation - an environmentally sensitive, community-oriented solution to help address the critical shortage of medical supplies in underserved communities - with US$20,000, which will be put toward distributing donated, unused medical supplies to healthcare workers battling COVID-19 on the front line.
In addition, SemSem is also donating US$20,000 to fund general patient care needs including the purchasing of ventilators and personal protective equipment such as masks, the hiring of additional clinical staff, capacity expansion and clinical research.
Highlighting the importance of protecting yourself and others, the label is offering hand-washable face masks to essential workers and their immediate community, as well as the general public. If you wish to grab a one-of-a-kind design, you can do so via the label's Instagram, @semsem.
Abeer Al Otaiba commented, "We believe in the power of supporting our community and protecting all those who are on the front line every day."
