The four-day fashion bonanza that is Fashion Forward Dubai always produces some stellar moments.
And Saudi Arabian designer Arwa Al Banawi's presentation of her SS20 collection, A la Safar, was undoubtedly one of them.
For starters, the Dubai-based Jeddah-born designer chose UAE-based singer Layla Kardan to open the show, following on from their collaboration in June 2019 when Layla helped launch Banawi's AW19 collection by penning a song The Suitable Woman inspired by the clothing.
But that wasn't her only wildcard.
Having previously appeared in Banawi’s AW19 campaign entitled “The Saudi Dream”, which was inspired by Saudi Arabia’s street culture, Saudi model Shahad Salman also took to the runway on the night.
“Saudi fashion has always been very vibrant – even when people wear local garments, it’s always in a really stylish way. I really wanted to capture that essence – the lifestyle and the energy that I grew up in. I wanted to show that to the world!” Banawi has said previously.
And her most recent show at Fashion Forward Dubai did just that, and then some.
