As the home of the Chanel flagship and the private apartment of Mademoiselle Chanel herself, 31 rue Cambon is arguably the chicest address in Paris.
Featuring four impeccably decorated rooms that went on to form the very foundations of the fashion house, the perfectly preserved apartment continues to be a source of inspiration today and everyone from the late, great Karl Lagerfeld to current Artistic Director Virginie Viard.
Many pieces from the apartment have been lovingly reinterpreted in the Mademoiselle Privé exhibition that’s set to take place in Tokyo later this month, and ahead of the reveal, rapper Pharrell Williams was invited to visit the apartment.
From the outset, the Chanel brand ambassador seems awe-struck to be spending time in the iconic abode.
“Like she’s walked through these rooms, and on these floors and has been exposed to the same daylight as me. There’s a connection, you know. I would even argue that her spirit is in here, right,” he says.
And he also feels privileged to be seeing all the pieces she personally chose for her home. “She’s made the decisions on all these things that are in here. Her choices are still in this room. Her energy is still in this room,” he adds.
