The 5 fashion items that went down a viral storm this year

While there’s no exact science to making something go viral, Lyst has compiled all of its search engine data from the past 12 months to compile a list of the fashion items that sent fans into a virtual frenzy.

From the Zara polka dot dress to a puffa coat that costs less than Dhs400, here are the top five of 2019.

Zara polka dot dress

Zara’s polka dot dress was the most talked-about item of the year according to Lyst. Within weeks it had its own Instagram account and generated a 1,392 per cent rise in social media mentions for Zara.

Khatie cashmere bra and cardigan

When Katie Holmes stepped out on to the streets in Manhattan to hail a cab wearing a matching bra and cardigan by Khaite, searches for the brand increased 217 per cent, and the Eda bralette style remains the brand’s most viewed product.

Amazon Orolay coat

Beloved by Manhattan’s Upper East Side, this puffa coat became a viral hit in February thanks to its position as the number-one-bestseller on Amazon and the 600 positive reviews from customers.

Lady Hale’s spider brooch

Lyst has found that the 74-year-old president of the Supreme Court in the UK made spider brooches a breakout search term after she made shockwaves with her declaration that UK Prime Minister, Borris Johnson’s prorogation of parliament was “void and of no effect”.

Vetements Hug Me Bear Slippers

There was a 118 per cent spike in searches for these nostalgia-tinged ‘90s slippers after Vetements released them in September. They also quickly sold out across multiple retailers.
