Lyst has revealed its top 10 power dressers of 2019, and unsurprisingly Meghan Markle is number one.
By analysing the biggest spikes in searches, sales, news coverage and social media mentions over the last 12 months, the fashion hub has deemed the Duchess the most powerful dresser as her outfits sparked, on average, 216 per cent increase in searches for similar pieces.
And the shirt dress, one of Meghan’s wardrobe staples, grew 45 per cent after she wore five different variations during the Royal Tour of South Africa.
Actor Timothée Chalamet follows Meghan but for many different reasons. His decision to wear a diamante Louis Vuitton hoodie to The King premier being one of them – searches for hoodies rose 192 per cent. Plus, he caused searches for Haider Ackermann suits to spike 806 per cent after he chose to wear one.
And the Gen Z nods don’t end there. Zendaya, Billie Eilish, Lisa from K-Pop band Blackpink, Kylie Jenner and Harry Styles all made the top 10.
For Zendaya, the light-up Cinderella gown by Tommy Hilfiger she wore to the Met Gala caused a 54 per cent increase in searches for the brand. Plus, the Vera Wang gown she wore to the Emmys increased searches for the brand by 33 per cent.
And while singer Billie Eilish is only 17-years-old, her #influence knows no bounds – searches for BBCICECREAM rose by 211 per cent in less than a week after she tagged the brand on the social media platform.
Rapper Cardi B, singer Lizzo and actor Billy Porter also made the list, thanks to their impactful and pioneering attitudes to fashion.
Cardi B’s vintage Mugler Grammys gown caused searches for the designer to rise 169 per cent in four hours; Lizzo’s signature leotards have seen a surge in popularity; and Billy Porter’s red carpet looks have been some of the most celebrated of 2019.
