This month de Young Fine Arts Museum in San Francisco is putting the spotlight on modest dress with a new exhibition, Contemporary Muslim Fashion. Launching on 22 September this is the first major exhibition to pay homage to the style of modern Muslim women.
De Young’s CEO, Max Hollein has invited 45 designers, labels and retailers to provide clothes for the exhibition, and amongst them are Modanisa, a Turkish online modest-clothing store who will be providing outfits for the launch catwalk show as well as for display.
Anyone who’s lucky enough to be in the US city over the next few months will be able to explore garments and styles from around the world and experience everything from high-end fashion to modest streetwear and sportswear such as the burkini. There’ll also be personal narratives, runway footage and fashion photograph and news clips making it a 360-degree immersion into the world of Muslim fashion.
For the rest of us in the Middle East who won’t make it across seas, we’ve got some beautiful images from the collection to enjoy. You’re welcome!
