What Pierpaolo Piccioli did next

White is not at all the colour of minimalism, as many may think; it is the colour of couture, and the colour of universality,” exclaims Valentino’s Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli. For his Spring/Summer 2020 collection, the Italian designer loaded the runway with look after look of unequivocally beautiful all-white outfits.

The white-out began with model Adut Akech in a wraparound shirt-style dress complete with lady-like pleats and a cut that allowed for a purposefully defiant plunge across the shoulder line. A Grecian-style belt was echoed by similar sandals, and the only colour to puncture the tranquillity was a touch of opulent gold. Similarly, for look six, Piccioli reprised Victorian-esque extravagance with billowing sleeves and a statement ruffle collar – all in the crispest of white, of course. Teamed with tailored city shorts and demure flats, the look makes for an enviable approach to Riviera style this summer.

“What interests me about white is that it allows us to go back to the essence of shape and volume,” states Piccioli. Both components are evident throughout the collection, named Le Blanc, which translates the Maison’s Haute Couture codes and techniques into wearable prêt-à-porter pieces. According to the house, these light yet structured creations were imagined to connect true life and big dreams. Any connotations that white signals minimalism are completely abolished through each and every look, and instead, Le Blanc proves that white can be just as glorious and just as powerful as any other hue. Bravo!

The made-to-order collection will be exclusively available in The Dubai Mall and Mall of Emirates for the Middle East. From airy, over-sized sleeves to languid, floor-sweeping dresses, it feels like the most optimistic of outlooks for the months ahead. “White is the most inclusive colour, the one that comprehends all the others and that resets all differences, showing us all as nothing else than human beings,” concludes Pierpaolo Piccioli. If that’s not a sign to think twice before overlooking your crisp whites this summer, then we don’t know what is.
