What The Modist did next

As winner of the Editor's Choice award for Fashion Game-Changer of the Year, Grazia is not alone in expecting great things from the team headed-up by Ghizlan Guenez, CEO and Founder at The Modist. As if launching the first global online destination for modest fashion on International Women’s Day on 8 March 2017 wasn’t a powerful enough declaration of what the brand sought to achieve, this week, The Modist unleashes its own label, thoughtfully named Layeur.

Ghizlan reveals, “Having our own brand that speaks to the women that we address at The Modist has been part of the thinking since day one.” She continues, “We believe that a multitude of layers make up who you are. They tell your story, and with the launch of Layeur – a luxury label dedicated to creating must-have pieces for the modern, modest dresser – we want to celebrate that.”

Expect vintage-inspired prints and flashes of scarlet and gold that can be worn over silk shirts and turtlenecks, all created with the opacity, weight and drape of the fabric in mind.

And in a culture of collaboration, and Layeur seems to have provided The Modist with the perfect platform with which to start these creative conversations. “If collaborations come our way and are meaningful and are aligned with us, then why not?” Ghizlan muses. “We are a team of people in a business that never says never.”
