It's hard reaching - ahem - a certain age. Hard because having to choose between a new pair of shoes or a piece of neon art for above your bed is a precarious situation to find yourself in. What we are happy about, however, is the steady increase of killer homegrown interiors brands sprouting up; not least of which is TALATA - the UAE-based, Egyptian-inspired homeware label about to usurp any and all of our footwear purchases for the forseeable future.
Founded by three female design mavericks all hailing from Egypt, TALATA - meaning 'three' in Arabic - is an ode to rich, Middle Eastern exoticism, modern flair and local heritage. In fact, as well as creating shiny new pieces, they also repurpose old ones. Upscale upcycling, if you like.
Handmade fabrics are a cornerstone of the brand's DNA, using ancient textile techniques from the 1800s and 100 per cent Egyptian cotton and natural dyes. The motifs are designed to portray elements of Egyptian history and culture. Think palms, pyramids and scarab beetles.
As well as interior and product design and manufacturing, TALATA will also be doing one-of-a-kind collaborations with up-and-coming regional designers. Its d3 showroom is open now in Building 3, Unit 325 and is open daily from 10am to 6pm.
We can already hear our husbands moaning about how many cushions we're about to bring home...
